Old Albanian’s home game against Birmingham Moseley is one the club will want to forget not least for the way that what the visitors didn’t carve out for themselves, the hosts were good natured enough to provide for them in a 33-7 scoreline.

Time and again, in both halves, OAs launched themselves into propitious positions only to cough up possession by handling error or forward pass.

A superbly efficient Moseley back division made full use of this largesse and improved on it at regular intervals so that at the break the Midlanders had notched four converted tries without reply.

One pleasant surprise for the partisan crowd was the Albanian tight scrum which bullied a much bigger pack all afternoon and without this titanic effort by Nick Stevens’ men the final score would have been much less appealing to his side.

The line-out effort was almost as good and these two factors will bode well for Albanian as the season runs its course.

Heroic and, at times, desperate OA defence kept the Moseley assaults at bay for large portions of the match but the hosts’ attack only found its way through the visitors’ ramparts once.

Moseley’s James Williams was faultless and ran his backs with precision while his outsides responded in like-minded fashion.

Owen Hills, Jacques Le Roux, Greg King and Jack Preece scored first-half tries and Williams crossed towards the end for the one he did not convert. Jason Billows registered the Albanian try, converted, with over an hour gone by Ben Palmer who was untiring in his damage limitation work.

Albanian travel to beleaguered Macclesfield this weekend.
