Oaklands Wolves’ WBBL play-off hopes are back in the spotlight after a mid-season break for the Commonwealth Games – and captain Lizzie Harrison is excited about what the final weeks of the season could hold.
The Women’s British Basketball League (WBBL) took the decision to shut down and support the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in Australia, and the decision paid off with a unprecedented silver medal for England.
But now the focus is very much back on league action.
The Wolves sit in eighth, the final play-off place available, but are tied on points with Cardiff Met Archers just below them.
And with just three games remaining they need to pick up as many wins as possible.
The first opportunity comes this Saturday, against Caledonia Pride, in the final home match at their Oaklands College base.
That is followed by a trip to Sevenoaks Suns on Sunday and the season finishes with a trek to Durham Palatinates on April 29.
Saturday’s game against the Pride sees Oaklands come up against the side who they picked up their first ever league win against earlier in the season.
And with the Scottish outfit just two points ahead in seventh, the game offers a great chance to take a firmer grasp of a play-off place.
Captain Harrison said: “Our main goal from the beginning of the season was to make the play-offs and we’ve put ourselves in a great position to do just that.
“We’ve got to focus and be disciplined over the next two weeks to finish out the regular season the way we know we can.
“It’s going to be a great matchup on Saturday, I’m excited.”
The club are looking for a strong crowd to push them onto victory
Anyone can attend with the match at Oaklands College Sportszone, Hatfield Road, starting at 2pm.
