Oaklands Wolves help open Cunningham Hill’s new synthetic running track

Cunningham Hill Junior School unveiled their new synthetic Daily Mile track – with Oaklands Wolves WBBL basketball team doing the honours.

The track is part of a project that allows the children to have a daily run as a boost to general health and wellbeing, with studies indicating this helps with aptitude, attention span and self confidence.

The players joined pupils and teachers in running around the 250m circuit.

PE subject leader Angela Beattie said: “This is the third year we have embraced the Daily Mile initiative.

“It has resulted in an amazing increase in the fitness of our children and their enthusiasm for PE.

“Previously, it was difficult to keep up our running once our field became muddy.

“We made a circuit in the playground but this was restricting. Now we can run all year round.”
