The track is part of a project that allows the children to have a daily run as a boost to general health and wellbeing, with studies indicating this helps with aptitude, attention span and self confidence.

The players joined pupils and teachers in running around the 250m circuit.

PE subject leader Angela Beattie said: “This is the third year we have embraced the Daily Mile initiative.

“It has resulted in an amazing increase in the fitness of our children and their enthusiasm for PE.

“Previously, it was difficult to keep up our running once our field became muddy.

“We made a circuit in the playground but this was restricting. Now we can run all year round.”

Wolves’ Lizzy Harrison said: “This is all part of more community-based activities we are planning in 2018.”
