WINNER of the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters last year, Tom Lewis of Welwyn Garden City was unable to hold on to the title in this year's tournament at Nizels, Kent, on Monday.

He had started well leading by a shot after a first round 68 and remaining one shot clear of the field with a 69 in round two, ahead of eventual winner Jonathan Bell. Lewis was the only one to open with two rounds in the 60's, but then suffered a disastrous 82, followed by 73 for a total of 292 for a share of seventh place, finishing 11 strokes behind winner Bell (Royal Blackheath), 71 67 70 73 for 281.

Last year Lewis won at the first extra hole of a play-off at the same venue, his 281 total being seven under par.

Runner-up then Gary King (Tyrrells Wood) tied again with Lewis, this time on 292.
