HOCKEY: ST ALBANS Hockey Club recently celebrated the impressive achievement of former first XI captain Nigel Stofton in starting his 50th consecutive playing season with the club.

The 67-year-old joined the club in 1959, following in the tradition of his father and elder brother Roger and soon established himself as a regular in the 1st XI. He was captain during a highly successful period in the 1970s and he later became president of the club but never stopped playing.

He led the Veterans side to the national final of the Vintage Cup in 1998 and has recently represented England Over 65s.

Over 100 current and former players gathered at Clarence Park for a celebration lunch followed by a match between St Albans Centurions and an Invitation XI after which Nigel was presented with a suitably inscribed two-litre tankard.
