St Albans City v Newport County

Blue Square South - Saturday, March 21, 2009

Clarence Park (Kick off 3pm)

CITY will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to six games when they entertain Dean Holdsworth's Newport County tomorrow [Saturday].

The Welsh side have gradually pulled themselves away from the relegation zone and find themselves in 15th place, four places below Steve Castle's side.

Newport will be looking for another three points to take them that one step closer to securing their future in the division but will come up against a confident City side who have been buoyed by five consecutive clean sheets.

Newport's cause is not helped by the news that top scorer Craig Reid has been ruled out for a further two weeks with a hamstring injury.

Last Meeting - City bought all three points back over the Severn Bridge when they visited Newport in September. Jonathan Hunt's 67th minute penalty ensured that the points came back to Clarence Park with the result sparking City's seven game winning streak.

Form - Newport had rediscovered their form after four straight defeats in February with impressive back-to-back wins. Paul Cochlin's goal gave them a 1-0 win away at Championship chasing Hampton & Richmond Borough and the defender, who has been used as an emergency striker in recent games, was also on target in their next match, as they beat Braintree Town 2-1.

However a demoralising 4-0 defeat at home to rivals Bath City on Wednesday evening will have hurt the fans and dented the player's confidence ahead of their trip to Hertfordshire.

Players to Watch - Wayne Turk is the Exiles' driving force in midfield having joined the club from Blue Square Premier side Salisbury City. Turk was an integral part of the Salisbury side that got promoted to Non-League's top tier but moved to the Spytty after the Whites suffered financial difficulties.

Supplying the ammunition to the attackers is Kevin Cooper. The former Derby and Wimbledon midfielder joined Wolverhampton Wanderers for 1 million in 2002 and has that bit of added class that can unlock a defence.

Aaron Cook has bolstered the Exiles defence since following Turk from Salisbury City in November. Cook can play at either centre half or fullback and found fame as captain of the Salisbury side that held Nottingham Forest to a draw in the FA Cup three years ago.
