PARK Street Village moved into the semi final of the Anagram Records Trophy with a comfortable win over Baldock Town Letchworth.

A solitary goal from hotshot Matt Newman was all that separated the teams in the end but despite the close scoreline PSV were never tested by their visitors.

It was sweet revenge for Village who had lost 3-0 to the same opponents during the week and the results puts Ryan Thompson's side into their second semi final of the season.

Thompson told The Herts Advertiser: "I'm really pleased especially after Wednesday's performance against them.

"We made a couple of changes for Wendesday's game with a couple of players who haven't had much football coming in but we simply weren't good enough. A few of the lads struggled with fitness after playing extra time last Saturday. We got to half time at 0-0 and we'd done alright but in the second half we went to pot. I would say they were that better than us."

Village were forced into more changes after losing Lee Woodruff to injury on Wednesday and David Ross unavailable due to work commitments.

The home side didn't let this disturb them and Baldock Town Letchworth were unable to deal with the attacking trio of Newman, Andy Murphy and James Hill.

Newman grabbed the only goal of the game when he was given the time and space at the far post to stab the ball home and it proved decisive.

Despite the visitors rallying just after the break, PSV snuffed out their attacks and goalkeeper Tony Kerby had a relatively quiet afternoon.

Thompson's side will now take on Molten Spartan South Midlands side Padbury United in the semi final on March 14 and the Village boss is hoping his side can fly the flag for the Herts Senior County League.

"Herts County League teams don't normally do well in this competition and we're the last team from Herts County League left in the competition.

"We've got another quarter final coming up in a couple of weeks and if we can make three semi finals this year it would be great.

"We just need to transform that into our league games and we should be ok."
