St Albans CC names new outdoor nets facility in memory of chairman Phil Milton who passed away earlier this year

CRICKET: WITH work finally complete on the building of a new outdoor cricket net facility at Clarence Park, St Albans Cricket Club has made the decision to name it after Phil Milton, who was chairman of the club until his untimely death in early November.

“This project has only been possible thanks to the hard work of a team of fund raisers at the club, and Phil was the driving force behind this effort” said Paul Sands, the club’s vice chairman.

“Under Phil’s chairmanship this club went from strength to strength. For example he was the man responsible for increasing the number of junior members from only a handful to around 300 in just a few short years, and on top of this he ensured that the club’s finances were in good enough shape for a major undertaking such as this project to be possible. There was no bigger character at this club than him, and his presence is sorely missed. Naming these nets the ‘Phil Milton Cricket Facility’ will ensure that his memory lives on for all involved here and it’s a fitting tribute to a man who gave so much time and energy to this club.”

As well as funds raised by members of the club, grants from St Albans District Council Local Strategic Partnership, Lafarge Aggregates & Concrete UK through the Landfill Communities Fund, and The England and Wales Cricket Board have made possible the construction of a facility that will be available for use by local schools, community groups and the general public, as well as the members of St Albans Cricket Club itself.
