Meghan times it right to lead St Albans to fifth spot

ST Albans Athletic Club secured fifth position at the last fixture of the Chiltern Cross Country Young Athletes League on Saturday.
On a beautiful course in brilliant sunshine all the athletes battled with the mud against competitors from the West and North of London. The course was particularly challenging with the last 400 metres up a gradually increasing incline.
The Under 11s girls team were led by the impressive Meghan Hobbs, who ran a conservative race and then stormed through to finish in fourth place.
The Under 15s boys Elliott Poulain and Khalid Al Abandy were third and ninth respectively and, in the Under 13s Boys, James McMurray (second) and Oliver Poulain (third) continued their fine form and led the team to first place in the Division Two team category.
The Under 13s girls performed strongly with Megan Steer (third), Naomi Hodson (fifth) and Isabel Thompson (seventh) finishing well to take silver in the team event. The club secured fifth place overall.
l JOSH Clifford from Oakwood School took first place in the Herts Primary Schools Cross Country at Westminster Lodge.
Josh won the race on Saturday, February 2, with a time of 5.46 and then went on to score a hat trick in the St Albans Cub Football League later in the day. Luke Dee of St John Fisher finished 10th in the race with 6.02 and Liam Robinson, also of St John Fisher, took 17th with a time of 6.09. Gus Scott of St Peter's School finished 19th with 6.11.
In the girls primary race, Aboyne Lodge School took the team prize on 32 points with Pope Paul of Potters Bar a point back and St Albans High School third with 50 points. Meghan Hobbs led the way for Aboyne Lodge as she took second place with a time of 6.06. Georgina Clark was the second scorer for the school in 10th (6.36) and Philippa Style third scorer in 20th (6.59).
For St Albans High School, Emma Targett was the first scorer in 13th (6.49), Nina Patel second scorer in 18th (6.57) and Rachel Parlour was the third scorer in 27th place (7.03).
Megan Breen, aged 10, from Wheatfields Junior School ran superbly to finish sixth with a time of 6.27. Other results can be found on the Herts Schools AA website at www.hsaa.info
