EIGHT Athletes from St Albans AC made the journey to Alton Towers in Staffordshire on Saturday to take part in the Saucony English National Cross country Championship.

The athletes faced a challenging course set on the side of a hill, with undulations resembling the thrilling rides of the neighbouring theme park

The St Albans athletes were on a learning curve, competing with the best in Great Britain and experiencing the fantastic atmosphere.

James Mc Murray finished 19th in the Under 13s Boys race followed by by Oliver Poulain and Matthew Cloke. The Girls Under 13s team were placed 19th out of 40, with Izzy Thompson first St Albans athlete home, followed by Megan Steer, Anna Mackenzie and Hannah Hull. Also racing was Elliott Poulain in the boys Under 15s race.
