Wheathampstead 220-7 lost to Letchworth II 221-0 by 10 wickets
FOLLOWING last week's encouraging win WCC travelled to face a tough game against league leaders Letchworth II.
On an excellent batting track Wheato started steadily reaching 38 off 10 overs and seeing off the opening attack.

However the introduction of leg spin brought immediate reward as Jenkins bowled out two batsmen in his first over. For the second week running poor communication led to a run out and all the patient early work was again undone as Wheato slumped to 44-4 when Richard Winchester was yorked for a well made 30.
Mark Winchester and skipper Zaf Iqbal then rebuilt the innings with a partnership of 92.

Iqbal batted positively but succumbed to a catch at backward point for 39. Guy Wilson (22) scored quickly at the end of the innings but Mark Winchester takes most credit for a superb knock of 84.
Wheato ended on 220-7 their highest score in 2009.
What followed was a near perfect display of batting from the Letchworth openers. Meburne 84* and Elliot 112* saw the home side win without loss in 42.1 overs.
Two hard catches were dropped but it would not have affected the result and Wheato had to be satisfied with 10 batting points.
l WCC II kept up their push for promotion from Division Eight with another win over Old Owens II. The visitors scored 134-10 thanks to the efforts of Gordon (25) and Dawson Goody (56) opening the innings. Steve Booth claimed 5-23 ripping out the top order batsmen with his left arm spin and a fitter, leaner J Ghuulam claimed 3-33.
Although the batting was never totally convincing Dabare (23) and Yogendra (27) built the platform for a deserved victory as Wheato got home for another 30 points ending on 138-7.
l The highlight of the weekend was reserved for the Sunday XI's 40 overs match with Mill Hill Scorpions when Ben Griffiths batted through the innings for 130* in a score of 245-3.
Skipper Peter Griffiths was pleased with this maiden century effort and it was just a shame that Peter Robbins succumbed on 48 towards the end of the innings.
Mill Hill were always behind the pace on the run chase and wily bowling from Steve Smith who claimed three wickets and Alan Bates with two wickets ensured any thoughts of a late run feast were dashed. Mill Hill finished on 185-8.
