Ian Allinson has praised his entire squad after St Albans City continued their perfect start to the season with two good victories.

The 3-1 win over Weston-super-Mare on Saturday was followed by a 2-0 success at Chelmsford City on Monday night.

It sent Saints clear at the top of the Vanarama National League South with four straight wins.

And the praise from the City boss, who made a number of changes between the games, was for the full squad.

Speaking after the success in Essex he said: “We’ve had to go and fight and show a lot some composure while playing good football at the same time.

“It was a tough game but as with last week against Wealdstone, the boys were magnificent, every single one of them.

“They listened to what was expected and they’ve all done their job correctly and we’ve got a great result.”

Both City’s goalscorers against the Clarets started for the first time this year, which Allinson pointed to as an example.

“Tom’s been frustrated as he’s been on the bench for the last three games but he came in tonight and did a great job,” said the manager.

“He was excellent in the air, cleared his lines and won some big headers; he had to put his body on the line sometimes going in there with some big players but he stopped them from scoring.

“I’m pleased for him. The second half of last season wasn’t his best but we’ve seen a big turnaround in performances from him this year and he’s a great addition to our squad.

“Again Rhys has been sitting on the bench but fresh legs helped us and if you count the Charity Cup game against Hitchin, that’s his third of the season.

“We’re not about a main 11. Anyone of the 16 in this squad could be in on a regular basis and it wouldn’t affect us.

“Scott Thomas has been unfortunate. He’s been a stalwart since I’ve been here but at the moment he can’t get in the side.”

But Allinson was quick to calm too much excitement over City’s great start.

He said: “We’re starting to defend well at the moment and everyone is doing what they’re supposed to do but it’s only four games of a 42-game season.

“I remember last year, it all fell apart after Christmas so we’ve got a long way to go.”
