James Gray expects Luton Town loanee Charlie Smith to “enhance” St Albans City during his second spell at the club.
The 19-year-old returned to the Saints last week and was a first-half substitute, replacing the injured Danny Green, in Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Vanarama Conference South leaders Boreham Wood at Clarence Park.
Speaking after the game, joint manager Gray said: “He’ll enhance what we’ve got. He’s a naturally left sided player and he’s good running with the ball.” He added: “He put some good passes in [against Boreham Wood] and was unfortunate not to score. He had a great shot and the [player who blocked it] knew nothing about it. I was right behind it and it was going in the bottom corner and would have brought us back to 1-1.”
In his first spell with the club, Smith scored one, on his debut against Basingstoke Town, and made five appearances.
