LUCY Yates celebrated her 18th birthday in style at a National Junior League - Southern Premier Division athletics meeting at Copthall, Barnet last weekend.
Running for Shaftsbury Harriers, Lucy, from St Albans, did the double by winning the 800m in a time of 2.12.87 - which gives her the English Schools National standard - and followed this up two hours later by winning the 1,500m in 4.44.03. Her 800m time is the fastest outdoor Under 20s time in the country this year so far.
On her actual birthday, the previous Wednesday, she ran 2.13.32 in her first 800m race of the season in an Open meeting at Woodside stadium, Garston.
Lucy is also celebrating the award of a full Athletic Scholarship to the university of Utah in Salt Lake City. She will be travelling to the University in August to take up the Scholarship. Lucy is sponsored by the 948 Sports Foundation and Cannons Health and Fitness Club.
