London Colney made progress in the Dudley Latham Memorial Premier Division Cup after beating Hertford Town 6-3 in an incredible game.

James Ewington scored three while Greg Shaw, Charlie Smith and Danny Fitzgerald getting the others.

It was a busy night for Fitzgerald as he was one of three players to be sent off, Lee Close also making an early exit for the Blueboys with Louis Rose going for Hertford.

By half-time the crowd had already seen one of these cards as well as four goals.

Ewington opened the scoring on 14 minutes, hitting it low past Harry Ricketts after being sent clear by Jack Woods.

Hertford levelled in bizarre circumstances.

A back pass from Dan Power was completely misjudged by Charlie May who could only watch as the ball trickled into the net.

The Blueboys thought they had retaken the lead when Shaw headed home but it was disallowed for a shove on a defender.

But they went back in front on 41 minutes, Fitzgerald connecting perfectly with a Ewington cross.

The joy was short lived, Rose scoring straight from the kick-off.

The first half action wasn’t over as Rose went from hero to villain in just a minute, sent off after a challenge on Woods.

The second half continued at the same frenetic pace and Colney were ahead for the third time a few minutes in, Fitzgerald repaying the compliment to give Ewington his second.

Smith raced clear for the fourth before Ewington completed his hat-trick for 5-2.

The Blueboys then went down to ten players when Lee Close was sent off for an off the ball incident but still got the next goal, Shaw capitalising on a Ricketts mistake.

Fitzgerald picked up Colney’s second red for mistimed tackle and Sam Ruff pulled one back for Hertford to finish a very eventful match.
