London Colney took the three points and local bragging rights after a 3-0 derby win at Colney Heath.

Lee Armitt grabbed another brace, taking his tally in the last seven games to 11 and for the season to 21.

Jack Woods, who was rightly named man of the match, grabbed the third.

It was the Blueboys eighth win from the last nine games and helps keep the pressure on the top two.

For Colney Heath however the result keeps them fourth from bottom of the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division, level on points with Oxhey Jets but with a better goal difference.

The visitors started the lively and Armitt had the first couple of chances, firing the first one wide and seeing the second saved by Magpies’ custodian Craig Clarke.

Woods also had an effort saved by Clarke low down to his left but he was left powerless on 11 minutes when Armitt’s header flew past him.

Four minutes later it was two. A long ball forward from Tom Smith found Woods and he held off two defenders to drive low to the bottom left hand corner of the net.

The Blueboys thought they had scored a third just before half-time when Armitt finished of a great four man move by lashing one in off the crossbar. Unfortunately for him the linesman’s flag was raised for offside,

But he was not to be denied and two minutes into the second half he converted a Woods cross for 3-0.

Heath did have their chances. Carl Costain and Samson King both saw well-struck shots saved by Jack Smith but this wasn’t going to be their day.

Next up for London Colney is a trip to Cockfosters on Saturday with Colney Heath also on their travels, this time to league leaders Hoddesdon Town.

The Blueboys game tonight (Tuesday) night away to London Tigers has been called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Colney Heath are due to face Welwyn Garden City tomorrow (Wednesday).
