London Colney ship four in Berkhamsted loss

London Colney fell to their second 4-0 defeat in five days against Berkhamsted on Saturday.

The Blueboys were beaten by Stevenage at the Lamex last Tuesday in the Herts Senior Cup, despite a good performance, but they couldn’t carry the display over to the league against Berkhamsted.

Two goals in both halves saw Berkhamsted consolidate their third placed position in the SSML Premier Division while Colney slipped a single place to seventh.

The Blueboys thought they had taken the league early on when Jimmy Hill’s low drive was pushed away by Carl Tasker into the path of Matt Newman who thought he had scored his 100th goal for the club only to see the linesman’s flag was raised.

Frankie Jowle had a chance for Berkhamsted but it was Colney who looked the more likely with Newman and Hill, who had a goal disallowed, coming closest.

After a period of attacking football, the Blueboys found themselves a goal down when Ed Canhan headed in a corner. Berkhamsted doubled the lead just before the break as Charlie May’s clearance hit Connor Calcutt and rolled past the keeper to give him an east tap in.

After the interval, Colney stuck to the task but Tasker and the woodwork kept them out before Berkhamsted netted a third in the 72nd minute, Jordan Frederick heading in a cross.
