LONDON Colney’s second game of the season ended in defeat, going down 2-1 at home to Ampthill.

The result brings the Blueboys’ points total to one following their opening day 1-1 draw with Biggleswade.

Against Ampthill, one of the division’s favourites for promotion, Mark Whittamore had to be in top form as he had to push away shots or tip around the post numerous efforts from the visitors.

On 22 minutes Ampthill took the lead when a long ball forward caught the Blueboys’ defence out of position and Danny Watson nipped in to chip the ball over Whittamore to make it 1-0.

Watson then nearly made it two but his effort went right across the face of the goal with Whittamore scrambling along his goalline. For the Blueboys Collins floated over a corner which Hill headed just over whilst play quickly switched to the other end and Whittamore pulled off a fantastic double save as first he tipped away Watson’s strike and Mark Butler follow up.

Hill raced clear but his shot was blocked by Martin Conway’s legs and Danny Fitzgerald following up saw his shot cannon back off the foot of the post back to Hill who put his second effort over the bar.

Then Greg Shaw shot over whilst Hill saw another shot pushed around the post both coming from balls into the box by Fitzgerald.
