Dan Millard scored a late goal to set up a London Colney fight back but it fell short as Berkhamsted progressed in the Herts Senior Cup.

It is the second time the Blueboys have lost to the Comrades this season, and the second time it was by a single goal, having lost 1-0 in the league and 2-1 on Tuesday night.

BJ Christie opened the scoring in the 54th minute, collecting a flick-on from a long punt forward to drive the ball past Jack Smith, Colney’s FA Vase hero just four days earlier.

Ed Canham doubled the lead with a powerful header, forcing Blueboys manager Jim Nicholls to make changes: Jimmy Hill was substituted and defender Tom Smith pushed up front. The move paid off as Millard scored his first goal for the club to give Colney a glimmer of hope that they could force a replay.

With the bit between their teeth, the Blueboys were left frustrated by Berkhamsted as they ran out the clock to secure their path into the next round.

Nicholls’ team returns to league action this weekend when they travel to Ampthill.
