London Colney hit the top of Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League Division Six A with a convincing 84 run victory over Cockfosters 2nds.

They made 280-6 from their 50 overs before bowling the visitors to Green Street out for 198.

The win followed up last week’s demolition of Bovingdon to carry on their positive start.

Having lost the toss and being asked to bat first for the second week in a row, Colney started off very brightly with Rick Zeiderman and Mitch Bradley punishing the bad ball and rotating the strike very well.

They were cruising along at five runs an over for the first 20 with Cockfosters looking unlikely to get a wicket.

The introduction of Ravi Solanki got the wicket of Zeiderman but not before his third half-century in a row, exiting on 57. Skipper Scott Hadley promoted himself to number three in an attempt to push the run rate up even further but along with Bradley found the going tough with pace off the ball.

Both fell in quick succession but not before Bradley had made 67 and Hadley 61.

The final total was still an impressive score and Cockfosters’ reply could have had an awful start as a fired up Andy Coley had the opener dropped off the first ball.

It did not deter him and soon picked up the first three wickets in an excellent fiery spell.

Cockfosters were still going along at four runs-an-over but losing wickets at regular intervals.

Spinners Matt Bristow and Simon Fretter slowed that rate but not to the detriment of the wicket taking.

Bristow bowled the better of the two, returning with figures of 3-28 from his 10 overs.

Some late order hitting from the helped get them a little closer but Colney were always too strong.

It puts them in good stead for the visit to Redbourn 2nds on Saturday, in what will be their biggest test of the season so far.

The 2nds were not so fortunate though as they lost by 147 runs to Hitchin 3rds.

They were all out for 152 chasing Hitchin’s 299-6 with no-one able to stem the run rate with the ball and 46 from Trevor Ray and 40 from John Gibbons the only significant contributions with the bat.

However, debuts for Dave Buss and Fraser Parker were a positive.
