ST Albans Athletic Club duo Stefan Maile and Abbie Holman will compete in the English Schools Track and Field Championship in Gateshead this week.

The Championships take place on Friday and Saturday. Stefan Maile, from Beaumont School, will represent Herts in the Under 15s high jump and has a personal best of 1.75m. Abbie Holman, of Roundwood School, competes in the Under 17s long jump and has a personal best of 5.33m.

Javelin thrower Peta Lundgren heads the list of Herts Phoenix athletes selected for the championships.

St Albans Girls school pupil Peta, is currently in the top 10 in the British Athletics Under 20s rankings with a throw of 42.17m in Crystal Palace.

Last summer Peta, aged 18, represented Great Britain in the European Youth Olympics and threw a best of 44.13m to rank her in the top three in Britain at Under 20s. Peta recently won the South of England AA Championships. Phoenix have a record 21 athletes selected for the Hertfordshire Schools Team.

Lucy Yates, from St Albans, has also been selected for Herts in the senior girls age group and Niall Fleming will compete in the inter boys age group.
