FORMER Herts amateur champions Sam Little and David Griffiths had mixed fortunes in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, the former putting on a gritty performance to finish tied for 30th place, but Griffiths missing out after two rounds.

Little's opening round of two over par 74 put him in danger, but he responded with 68, his two under par making the cut.

On a windy third day he slipped to 73 but on Sunday made a fine start with birdies at three, five and six to be four under par. He bogeyed nine and 16 to finish with 71 for a 216 total, two under par, with Miguel Angel Jimenez and Oliver Wilson tied on 11 under par, Jimenez winning the play off at the second extra hole. Little won 38,000.

Both Little and Griffiths, who had rounds of 77, 76, have struggled this season, with several missed cuts. In 15 appearances Little's best performances have been in the Far East - 29th at the Indian Masters, 28th at the China Open and 27th at the Asian Masters.

In 11 events, Griffiths has had only two finishes, 39th and 46th.
