Colney Heath went down 2-0 at home to Langford on Tuesday in the Molten Spartan South Midlands Premier Division. The Magpies were stretched for players with boss Craig Johnstone ruled out injured and Tom Dickie and free-scoring striker Ashley Aimakhu unavailable.
Talented young forward John Rathbone, who features for the Colney Heath youth side and Harvesters Under 18s, was called into the first team squad.
Langford took the lead when Gary Walker fired home on 14 minutes and they settled the contest with a second from Lee Pateman on 39 minutes.
Colney Heath boss Johnstone will hope to have the impressive Aimakhu back to get the goals as the Magpies look for three points from a crunch fixture with Cockfosters on Saturday at the Recreation Ground.
