Vice-captain replaces Ben Frazer as Harpenden skipper

CRICKET: THE manner of Harpenden first XI’s exciting victory in the final league match of the 2010 season away to Potters Bar CC has now passed in to club folklore.

Looking forward, skipper Ben Frazer took the view that he had taken the club ahead of schedule in maintaining a position in the HCPL Division 1 and that this was therefore an ideal time to hand over the reins. At the AGM, Nick Lamb accepted the nomination to take over as first XI skipper and already plans are in hand leading to the first league match of the season, at home to newly promoted Falkland CC from Berkshire on Saturday, 7 May 2011. A vote of thanks was also given to outgoing second XI captain David Whiteley as he handed over to left-arm spinner Richard Darwin who will be seeking promotion to improve upon a position of fourth in Division 2.

Simon Wade will continue to manage third team affairs and the club expect to run at least their usual six teams on a Saturday. Harpenden CC Colts had another successful and enjoyable season in 2010 with over 270 children registered with age groups from U-8 up to U-15 plus a highly successful Girls’ section who will play league cricket for the first time in 2011. Rupert Garrett’s efforts have also resulted in an increase in the number of boys being selected for County winter training and at Area level along with a high representation at District level as well. Finally, Harpenden CC greatly enjoyed providing coaching to an increased number of Harpenden primary schools in 2010 and will look to develop these contacts.

Chairman Steve Hewlett was also re-elected where his thanks were recorded to everyone connected with the club’s ongoing success. Harpenden CC are looking forward to the summer and any potential new players are encouraged and welcome to visit the Harpenden CC web-site and to make contact with the club. Winter nets start at 8pm at the Redbourn Choice Cricket Centre on Wednesday, January 12.
