St Albans ladies faced their toughest challenge to date against Sevenoaks and despite the 2-1 defeat they met it with passion and determination.

The visitors hadn’t conceded a goal all season but they did when Adele Sammons pounced in the first half.

It was a great performance by St Albans and they kept attacking and making chances.

A when Sevenoaks did press, the defence pressed back and goalkeeper Laura Myers made some excellent saves.

However, two goals in the second period denied them what would have been any well-deserved points.

The men had their six-game winning streak ended with a 2-0 loss away to City of Peterborough.

But despite the loss St Albans still sit second in the table, behind leaders Bedford on goal difference only.

Head coach Andy Bowskill was philosophical after.

He said: “Despite creating numerous chances in this very close game, our goalscoring touch momentarily deserted us.

“No doubt it will return very soon.”

CoP started well and were ahead thanks to former Tangerine Adam Wilson midway through the first half.

And they were soon two up as they made it difficult for the visitors to break out of defence.

But Saints were the better team after the break, creating many open play chances and winning a number of short corners.

Unfortunately they couldn’t make an impression to the score.

The strength in depth in the junior section of the club was clearly on show in the U12 girls’ division as Oaklands College played host to St Albans A team taking on their B team counterparts in the latest round of Premier Division matches in the Chiltern League.
