COLNEY Heath boss Scott Lacey say he is questioning his side's attitude after their 4-1 defeat to Haringey Borough on Saturday.

John Donoghue's 11th minute goal had Heath cruising but when Haringey were awarded and converted a 43rd minute penalty from Lloyd Opara the momentum swung and Heath were blown away.

Opara went on to complete his hat-trick with Adam Scotcher grabbing the fourth and Lacey was far from happy with the way his players approached the game.

"For the first time I'm questioning my players' attitude. They've got to respect themselves as well as the game and they didn't do that. There were only three or four that played to Spartan South Midlands level."

An injury to the referee in the pre-match warm up resulted in the senior linesman taking the whistle with a spectator running the line.

All seemed to be going well for Heath until the replacement referee awarded a penalty but things got worse in the second half as a catalogue of errors ended Heath's hopes of getting something from the game.

"The game was well balanced and we were cruising. Then in the 43rd minute the referee gave a penalty.

"I've seen them given and I've seen them not given. That gave Haringey the momentum and they looked a much better side in the second half.

"The second goal was unbelievable. They had a shot but we had a man on the line and as he went to clear it their number nine launched himself at him taking the man and the ball into the net.

"The referee looked at the linesman who looked at the referee, they panicked and the goal was given. It was amazing."

Lacey admitted he and his players lost their discipline after this and Matt Corbould was sent off for "persistent fouling" much to Lacey's bemusement.

"We lost our discipline and so did I, maybe it's because of our inexperience. We lost control and the referee lost control of the game.

"I'm not saying it's all the ref's fault because he only had one bad half .

"We're not at our game and standards have slipped at the club. I think the players struggled to get their heads around when we were playing well and not getting results and we're feeling sorry for ourselves.

"Because of where we got ourselves at Christmas I think we feel we can just turn up and get three points against the smaller teams but you've got to get yourselves up for small teams more than the bigger games."

Lacey believes all his side have to play for now is third place and says the club will probably start looking towards next season in their remaining games.

"I believe a top three finish is all we can hope for. If we're totally honest, there's not a lot to play for and we'll start looking towards next year.

"We've got to do what's best for Colney Heath and going through the motions is not what's best for the club.
