KEN BROWN, designer of the Aldwickbury Park course at Harpenden 15 years ago, returned recently to see the results of an upgrade of the course, costing £750,000, by new owners Burhill Golf and Leisure

After walking the course he said "The course has never looked better and the team has done a great job in the last year."

Harpenden resident Ken, who designed the course with architect Martin Gillett, approved the improvements to the greens and fairways on the 6,352 yard par 71 course..

"Our brief in building the course from scratch was to make it a top class course for all to enjoy, constructed to high specification to produce premier quality greens, tees and fairways." said Ken, former tournament winner on the European Tour and in America and five times Ryder Cup player now BBC TV golf commentator.

Tristan Hall, Aldwickbury Park general manager, said "It was a pleasure to welcome Ken back and see that he was pleased with the upgrade and continuing work. The course has been in excellent condition throughout the winter and with Spring close by we believe we are on the road to achieving our goal of making Aldwickbury Park the best maintained quality course in the region."

As well as the upgrade to the course Burhill Golf and Leisure has worked to improve and enhance clubhouse facilities to accommodate functions and meetings.

Newcomers to golf, families and juniors are being welcomed to an Open Day at the course on Sunday, April 6, offering free lessons and golf on the short course, and a fun entertaining show from world golf trick-shot champion Geoff Swain.
