ST ALBANS Men beat Bishop's Stortford 3-1 as they closed in on the leading pack in East Men's Premier A table.

Stuart Johnstone scored twice for the Saints who resumed their outdoor season in confident style.

Johnstone opened the scoring from a training ground routine but Stortford hit back with a close range effort.

Johnstone restored the Saints lead and defender Bolland and 'keeper Yull denied Bishop Stortford with two penalty corner blocks in the second half, with the score precariously at 2-1.

The game wasn't safe until David Williams added a third goal, but Saints on the whole controlled play only allowing Bishops Stortford to play in the parts of the field where they could dictate the play and stiffle the attack.

Harpenden Men saw their game against Bury St Edmunds postponed while the Ladies could only share a 0-0 draw with bottom of the table side Gravesend. The Ladies remain second from bottom.
