IZZY Thompson of Harpenden Swimming Club travelled to Macclesfield at the weekend to compete in the 2008 National Biathlon Championships.
She was joined by her Central Eastern Counties team mates Jessica Varley and Harriet Rogers.
Izzy recorded personal bests in both the 1,000m run (3:16.50) and 100m swim (1:11.26) to finish 10th and 35th respectively which was good enough for 17th place overall out of the 58 competitors.
With Harriet and Jessica also performing well, the Harpenden trio gained a podium place finishing second in the team event with a combined score of 6,836 behind Dorset who scored 7,004.
Izzy is developing nicely as an athlete with her skills being nurtured by coaches - Barbara Pearce (swimming) and George Harrison and Debbie Steer (running). Izzy was also joined at the event by her National Schools Cross Country team mate Harriet Clifford who finished in 12th place in the individual event with a score of 2,328 points.
