St Albans City manager Ian Allinson has responded to questions raised over City’s promotion ambitions.

Boreham Wood chairman Danny Hunter wrote a five-page column in the programme for last week’s Herts Senior Cup tie between the sides, focussing on his own successes at Meadow Park and comparing them to the situation Saints now find themselves in.

And he was also clear that Wood are in the position they are now because he refused to cash in on their strikers when they were pushing for promotion to the Conference.

Junior Morias and Louie Theophanous have both been the focus of speculation from football league clubs, with Peterborough United in particular seemingly keen on Morias’ signature.

Hunter said: “It may not be Ian’s decisions that turn Saints into possible champions. It could well be that decisions made above Ian at boardroom level will determine the Saints’ entire season.

“I will watch the St Albans transfer policy with plenty of interest.”

But Allinson, who spent 10 years working with the Wood chairman, replied saying they will not “sell their crown jewels and just see the season out”

Allinson said: “We have to seriously consider what we do in the transfer window. There are rumours, there is interest but I have to sit down with the owners within the next couple of weeks.

“We have to be careful not to sell our crown jewels as it were. But we’re also aware that I’m not here to stand in these players’ way. They’re playing here and doing a fantastic job for this football club but they also want to move on and become full-time professional footballers. And that’s what we have to be careful of.

“If an offer comes in and it’s fair then I’ll speak to the owners. We have some targets we would also like to bring in. These are the things we need to discuss properly but I can assure everyone that we’re not just going to throw this away.

“I’ve not come in here now and built up this [to throw it away] and this changing room wouldn’t allow us to just see the season out from where we are.

“We’re where we are because we’ve worked extremely hard and we’ve got to try and maintain this position and put pressure on Maidenhead.”
