Ian Allinson has called on the St Albans City fans to get behind the team in the final push for the play-offs.

Around 30 made the journey in the cold conditions to Canvey Island where they saw their side win 2-1 against hosts Concord Rangers.

But even though the City boss hailed their support on Saturday as “fantastic”, he has asked for that vocal backing throughout the final nine games.

He said: “I was really disappointed with the support on Monday at Hungerford. I thought it was disrespectful the abuse the players, myself and the management took on Monday.

“I was a bit down on them but they were great today and reacted really well to the game.

“But some of them have to realise that you’re not going to win every game of football and we have to accept that and respect the opposition.

“There was a lot of negativity came out on Monday and the players were disappointed after the game and I was disappointed.

“But they were good today. They’ve done really well today and we need them to be like that every game.

“We need them on our side at 0-0; we need them when we’re behind.

“I understand their frustrations, I want to win every single game but you can’t always.

“Even when we’re having bad times and things are going against us we need them on our side and encouraging us.

“Today they were fantastic, the amount that has shown up and the commitment they’ve shown in turning up in snowy, freezing conditions.”

Allinson says that positive backing could well be vital, especially at Clarence Park.

“We’ve got nine games to go, four at home,” said the Saints manager.

“[We’ve got] Poole next week, who will be dragged back in it if they’re not careful, Whitehawk, who are already in it, and then Braintree who could go level with us if they win, plus Hampton which is going to be difficult,

“And it’s going to be a tough run in so if we can pick up as many points as we can now it’s going to help.

“There is going to be lots of twists and turns.

“But if we can win our home games and draw the away ones, we’ll get in the play-offs.”

City’s next game is the away trip to Weston-super-Mare tomorrow (Tuesday).
