Colney Heath’s defence of the Herts Charity Shield fell at the first hurdle as they were beaten by Sun Postal Sports.
The Magpies beat St Margaretsbury in last year’s final to lift the Shield but were downed by goals either side of half time from Ashley Lewis and Nathan Pooley in the first round tie.
They were, perhaps, not rewarded for their industry in the second half as Ross Hampton, Postal’s goalkeeper, refused to be beaten.
It is not the ideal start to a season in which Heath are aiming for promotion from the SSML Premier Division. Manager Wes Awad spoke to the Herts Ad this week about the up-coming season; pick up a copy of this week’s paper to read what he had to say.
