Colney Heath completed the double over promotion rivals Berkhamsted at a sun-drenched Recreation Ground on Saturday.

The first half was a cagey affair, with neither team wanting to concede any ground to each other, and it wasn’t a surprise when the teams went into the break level at 0-0.

The Magpies came out after the break and seemed to have a point to prove. Dave Parkinson’s directness caused problems and within two minutes his shot was saved and rebounded to Josh Humbert who slotted home to give the Magpies the lead.

Parkinson looked dangerous all game and he got the next goal that essentially won the game. Good work from Brett O’Connor on the left gave Parkinson time and space to slam home from three yards out.

The third goal was the final nail in Berkhamsted’s coffin as slack defensive work and marking gave O’Connor the ball and he played it through to Parkinson who advanced on the keeper, tried to go round him but at the last second, back heeled the ball into the bottom corner.
