STRIKER Barry Hayles scored in each half as St Albans City dumped Harrow Borough out of the FA Cup on Saturday.

The Saints secured the 3-1 first round qualifying win to the delight of manager David Howell, who formerly managed Harrow Borough.

Ex-Fulham forward Hayles opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a header from a Sean Shields cross.

The lead could have been doubled soon after, but Hayles’ strike partner Lewis Toomey saw his effort come back off a post.

After the break City hit the woodwork again this time through Shields.

They did add a deserved second five minutes into the second half as Toomey teed up Hayles who made no mistake.

City defender Chris Seeby saw his cross-shot come back off the Harrow upright as The Saints hit the woodwork for a third time.

The side from Clarence Park were awarded a penalty as Garry Jones was adjudged to have handballed just before the hour-mark.

However, Toomey’s kick was hit way over the target.

Saints secured their path into the second qualifying stage with their third goal on 77 minutes as Shields tucked home Chris Henry’s pass.

Borough grabbed a late consolation goal through ex-City man Joakim Ehui, but it was too little too late for Harrow.

St Albans are back in Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division on Saturday as they host Kettering Town, kick-off 3pm.
