St Albans City manager Ian Allinson was pleased for the “forgotten” man at Clarence Park, Harvey Bradbury – after the Watford loanee got his first goal in the 2-1 win at Concord Rangers.

Bradbury struck seven minutes into the second half with a fine far-post header from a peach of a cross by Tom Bender to set City on their way to three points in the Vanarama National League South clash.

Allinson said: “We put young Harvey in today; I thought he did well when he came-on on Monday and I thought he gave Concord plenty of problems.

“He got his goal, he deserved that, and it set us on the way to three points.

“To be fair to him and as I said to his Dad on Monday [former Portsmouth striker Lee] I feel he’s been unlucky.

“If you go back to the Chelmsford and Harrogate games, he started both and was outstanding for us.

“I think maybe we’ve just forgotten about him a little bit because [Sam Merson] had come in and done so well, scored six in two games.

“But I just felt looking at the conditions today and the way we needed to set-up, he was just what we needed.

“And he led the line unbelievably well for us; scored his goal and could have a few more. Their keeper has made some good saves to stop him getting a hat-trick.

“But it’s great for him and it keeps Charlie Walker and Sam Merson on their toes.”

There was also praise for anther man, this time at the other end of the field.

“We’ve had to thank Dean Snedker today for a fantastic performance,” said the City manager.

“There have been one or two games where Dean has been at fault for one or two but he kept us in the game.

“At important times he’s made two or three really good saves and he got us the three points.”

The win lifts Saints into fourth again, with a three-point cushion to Braintree Town, who are just outside the play-off places.

And even the end if the game had nerves frayed somewhat, Allinson was delighted with the three points.

He said: “The two defeats last week set us back a little, which was disappointing.

“Today we bounced back well but for me we could have thrown it away in the last 10 minutes when it should have been done and we should have been out of sight.

“We needed to be a bit more organised and a bit more professional in those last 10 minutes.

“[But it was] on a difficult pitch and in difficult conditions and the players were magnificent; they had a fantastic work ethic and got their rewards by getting in front.

“They then nearly gave it away but fortunately enough we don’t so it was an important three points considering last weekend.

“It was a tough game to be involved in and the players have done fantastic.”
