Three men’s doubles pairs from Harpenden Lawn Tennis Club overcame tough opposition to win their age groups at the British Veterans’ Grass Courts Championships, held at the All England.
Norman Church and Robert James were victorious in the over-70s, while John Barnett and Richard Rowlandson stormed through the field in the over-75s, beating the second and third seeded pairs before defeating the number one seeds in straight sets (7-6, 6-2).
In the over-80s’ category, Mike Cottee and Vic Israel won the doubles competition while also coming second and third, respectively, in the singles.
HLTC Ladies were also well represented, with the over-40s women’s singles title going to Gillian Brown.
In separate news, Norman Church has been selected for the Great Britain men’s over-70 team to compete in the Super-Seniors World Team Championships in Antalya, Turkey, this October.
