HARPENDEN Town striker Jimmy Hill has grabbed an incredible nine goals in just two games.

The goal ace netted a hat-trick in Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Sun Postal Sports and then crashed six more in Tuesday night’s 9-1 hammering of bottom of the table side New Bradwell St Peter.

Town returned to the top of the table with the thumping win at New Bradwell St Peter.

It was the hosts went ahead as Danny Winfield scored.

However, it took Hill just five minutes to restore parity and then it was goals galore for himself and singles for substitute Ally Collins Jack Downes and a first for the club for centre-back Chris Green.

Matt Lord recovered from his back injury and was back in goal but was mainly a spectator.

Despite Hill’s treble on Saturday Town had surrendered their top of the table position at Rothamsted Park by drawing with Sports.

Karl Perry bundled the visitors in front after five minutes play, but the Town responded with Rob Clark supplying a good ball which Hill volleyed just over.

An early injury to Tommy Burns saw Stu Brown introduced into the action and the equaliser came in the 25th minute when Hill broke down the right and finished with a customary chip over the keeper from a difficult angle.

Most of the crowd thought this would be the start of a home goal rush, but it was the visitors who found the net twice more before the interval.

Firstly a central free-kick was converted by Jonny Daly and a deflected Chris Blundell shot made it 3-1.

Confidence was still high among the supporters that the Town would still get the points and Hill got his and Town’s second from close range in the 55th minute.

Perry Dunne-Jones came close with headers from corners but the rhythm of the game was interrupted by a clash of heads with a Sun player being stretchered off with Clark being able to continue.

Mark Hitchcock was introduced as the Town pressed for the equaliser. Somehow the referee and his assistant failed to spot an obvious shove in the back on James Ewington and even more amazing a handball, both in the penalty area.

The persistence paid off however when Hill converted a Ewington cross to complete his hat-trick and draw Bob Fowler’s men level. The game was nearly won in added time when Chris Green just failed to convert in a goalmouth scamble.

Harpenden are in Herts Senior Centenary Shield action on Saturday when they host Kings Langley.
