HARPENDEN TOWN revenged an earlier defeat to Buckingham Athletic with a 3-2, come-from-behind victory on Tuesday evening.

Simon Andrew’s charges lost 5-2 to Buckingham on August 17, albeit with a squad riddled with unavailability, but they showed their true character at Rothamsted Park on Tueday.

Harry Hunt gave Harpenden an early lead but they fell 2-1 behind before 15 minutes were on the clock.

The score remained the same until the 77th minute when James Ewington, who earlier missed a penalty that resulted in a Buckingham defender being dismissed, lifted the ball over the keeper to level the game.

With a one-man advantage, Harpenden pressed for a winner and it came off a Buckingham defender, turning Craig Mortimer’s cross into his own net.

The victory sees them jump up into the top eight. Andrew targeted the top eight by the end of October so his team is two months ahead of schedule.

And with five home games in next eight, Town look on pace to achieve it.
