President Dena Roberts played the first ball of the new season before her team met a side skippered by Harpenden’s captain.

But after a busy winter refurbishing the kitchen, upgrading the bar and smartening up the green’s surrounding landscape, the club are encouraging both men and women to try their hand at bowling, enjoy meeting other new players and joining in the club’s social activities.

To help they are running two open days at their Spenser Road base on Sunday, from 10.30am to 5pm, and Tuesday, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. Simply wear casual clothing and flat-soled trainers.

The match between the captain’s and president’s teams saw a win for the former in an entertaining and enjoyable match.
