HARPENDEN scored 22 points away at Bury St Edmunds but still came away empty handed after a 39-22 defeat.
Harps were dealt a blow when the hosts scored inside the first two minutes. Harps soon found themselves 12 points down but Tennant fed Machron to go over in the corner to the delight of the large travelling support and Tennant added a penalty to make it 12-8 at the break.
A try inside 90 seconds of the restart and four further scores appeared to put the game out of sight but Harpenden continued to play good rugby and added two further tries of their own including a superb solo try by winger Smith.
