STEVE Castle is preparing himself for some difficult decisions over the coming weeks as he looks to turn-around the fortunes of his struggling City team.

Tuesday's defeat at home to Staines saw City fall to 18th in the Blue Square South table and the City boss is looking to make changes to his squad but with the club's current financial situation it's a one-in one-out policy.

That policy was evident this week as Danny Green left the club to make way for David Galbraith and Castle is sure there will be more tough decisions to make along the way.

"I'm trying my level best to keep everything afloat," said Castle. "It's not easy and unfortunately I had to make some tough decisions just to try and keep people and I think I'll have to make some even tougher decisions in the next couple of weeks as well."

"I can only afford so much. With Danny I think he's a lad with tremendous ability but we need someone who can be more consistent and unfortunately I might have to let go of a couple more."

When asked whether the club's off-the-field problems were affecting the team's morale, Castle said: "I don't think the players are silly. They've got access to websites and they're not stupid and they know everything that's going on. Not one of them is under contract - the security of a contract is upmost for a lot of lads and they haven't got that.

"In fairness to the chairman, he's giving me whatever he can give me and we've just got to deal with it. Hopefully it won't get to the situation that it's a relegation battle. If we can keep these lads together I think there's enough about the squad (to do well)."

Galbraith showed glimpses of what he can offer the Saints during Tuesday's defeat and Castle is hoping for even more from the former Tottenham and Northampton winger once he's back up to full fitness.

"Because David's been out of the game for a while he's not fit but no disrespect if he was fit and firing on all cylinders I probably wouldn't be able to get him in. He'll be good, he showed me enough in a little spell there when he was putting the ball in on a regular basis into the box. He's got a very, very sweet left foot and his set plays would be a very big addition to us."

The League's top scorer, Manny Williams, is in town with Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday and Castle says it's as 'tough as they come'.

"We knew September was going to be a tough month and it is," explained the City boss. "We'll go into that game and hopefully not shoot ourselves in the foot and keep everything as positive as we can. They're down and it's all doom and gloom but you've got to let it wash over you. I'm as disappointed as the next man, even more so. We've just got to get some results, and get some result fast.
