HANNAH BURKE was involved in a seven-hole playoff the day before the county week match in Essex as she and Charlie Douglass played in the Irish Ladies Stroke Play Championship at Douglas in County Cork..
Hannah, 21, from Mid Herts and home from Baylor University, Texas, trailed leader Lisa Maguire, one of 14-year-old twins, by eight shots going into the last round on Sunday, but shot a six under par 67 after rounds of 74 73 for a 214 total to tie and go into a play-off with Lisa, who had shot a final 75. After six halved holes Lisa, Irish ladies close champion, holed a birdie putt from distance to achieve an Irish double. English champion Charlie, 20, from Brocket Hall, shot rounds of 77 80 74 for a 231 total.
The English girls were in time to make their flight from Cork and join the team on Sunday evening, and given a rest before playing in the singles on Monday afternoon against Essex, Charlie having five birdies as she won 6&5, with Hannah halving her match.
