St Albans City boss Ian Allinson is certainly not getting carried away having seen his side win four Vanarama National League South games in a row and climb to third in the table.

Saturday is Non-League day, in aid of Prostate Cancer UK, at Clarence Park with fellow high fliers Hampton & Richmond Borough, who occupy second spot, the visitors.

Allinson said: “We have got Hampton now, Maidenhead and Ebbsfleet and we could come out of the next three games with no points from that.

“The one thing it has done is it’s given us a good start to the season, a solid base, the squad is starting to believe in itself.

“We have got a good squad, we have got to make sure we use it properly to get the best from everybody.

“Hampton scored four again today [Monday], they have a lot of pace going forward. We will plan and prepare between now and Saturday and make sure that we are all right for the game.”

The Saints’ latest successes came over Bank Holiday weekend as they recorded a 3-1 home victory over Whitehawk on Saturday and followed that up on Monday with an impressive 3-0 win at Weston-Super-Mare.

Despite being stuck on the motorway and the game being delayed by 45 minutes, City made a storming start.

“Full credit to the players, full credit to the staff, they got the team ready quickly. We only had half-an-hour from when we turned up and it worked in our favour,” Allinson said.

“We got three goals in very quick fashion and it put the game to bed by half-time.”

A brace from midfielder Matt Ball, the opener from a direct free-kick, on his first league start led the way before striker Louie Theophanous finished off a fine team move.

Of ex-Stevenage player Ball, Allinson said: “From the past we have seen he has a wicked free-kick in him and it showed with the quality with which he put the ball around the wall.

“He’s sat there for six games and he’s not really had a look-in.

“In training he has been absolutely outstanding.”

On the rest of the game the manager added: “I felt we gave the ball away really cheaply in the second half when we really could have got hold of it and maybe punished them more.

“We created two or three great chances second half and without even playing to the level we had in the first half, but I have to give the players credit because the first 45 minutes we were outstanding.”
