SAINTS striker Paul Hakim has admitted that he is struggling to commit his future to the club.

The club's top scorer last season has been offered the opportunity of a promotion at work which will involve working on Saturdays and some Tuesday nights limiting his availability which has thrown his future with the club in doubt.

"It's all a bit up in the air at the moment. I'm struggling to make a commitment to any team at Blue Square South level," he revealed to The Herts Advertiser.

"I work in the football betting industry and I've been offered a promotion at work that would involve working Saturdays and Champions League Tuesdays because they are the busiest times."

The former Stevenage man revealed that getting a career outside of football was one of the reasons he dropped out of the full time game two seasons ago despite several offers to remain as a full time player.

"It's one of the reasons I came out of the full time game. I didn't want to be hovering around at 31 or 32 without a job. I wanted that opportunity to earn a decent wage and a secure income.

"When I left Stevenage I had offers to stay in the full time game. I could have joined Woking or Grays but I decided to drop back down with St Albans and get a job as well."

In an ideal world Hakim would like to continue playing for the Saints and he has been in discussions with boss Steve Castle to try and make that happen.

"Steve [Castle] knows all about it and we've been discussing possible pay-as-you-play deals or maybe playing one weekend in three and on the odd Tuesday night but what I have said to him is I don't want to come down and be unfit and not be able to give 100 percent.

"If there was some way of keeping my fitness levels up and coming on for half an hour on a Tuesday it would be great. I would like to keep playing football at the highest level I possibly can.
