Colney Heath put on an impressively organised display to claim their place in the Dudley Latham Cup at St Margaretsbury last night.
A defensively solid first half set the tone of the contest with few chances at either end. Glenn Draper had a strong match in defence, while captain Danny Payne, Jamie Eames and Matty Standen began to find some space in midfield.
Heath had a goal ruled out for off-side on 67 minutes, but three minutes later Levi Gunn fired over the goalkeeper and in off the crossbar for the only goal of the game. It was a moment of quality that deserved to win the tie.
The impressive Chris Brothwood was carried off late with a knee injury, but Colney Heath held firm.
St Margaretsbury are back at the Recreation Ground this Saturday in a SSML Premier Division.
