GREENWOOD Park picked up the trophy for the best cricket tea in the district on Saturday ahead of their clash with Ickleford. The trophy was presented to skipper Mel Baker by Herts Advertiser Sports Reporter David Brawn at the ground in Tippendell Lane.

Greenwood Park entered the competition run by the St Albans Food & Drink Festival with four extra portions of their tea provided to judges playing cricket at Verulamium Park.

Greenwood Park also receive a prize of £100 to go towards youth development which is already blossoming at the club with five teenagers in their line up on Saturday, including opening bowlers Joe Cole and Ryan Atkins, both aged 18. Atkins and Cole were quickly into their stride with a wicket each as Ickleford were reduced to 12-2 and soon had four wickets down for less than 40 runs.

The visitors recovered to post 186 all out and in reply, Greenwood Park had to grind out a draw with their final pair surviving on 117-9 off 48 overs.
