Mixed Hockey Knock-Out Cup Harpenden 5 Broxbourne 2 ON Sunday Harpenden HC took on Broxbourne in the National Mixed Hockey knock-out competition. Harps were making their debut match in the competition named the Timpson Trophy and began brightly, defying their underdog tag. Kevin Moxham set up Jules Rees to open the scoring for Harps and the lead was doubled soon after when midfielder Moxham provided the creative flair and Nigel Timms steered the ball with no back lift into the goal. Harpenden, inspired by Karen Slough, Danny Burgess and Bex Concagh, created more chances but failed to get a third and Broxbourne struck a goal back and then equalised before half time. After the restart Vicki Quinn set up Timms who missed an open goal but the third goal for Harps looked inevitable and it came when Rob Arnsby scored after a short corner play. The crucial fourth goal followed when Slough found Louisa England who calmly despatched the ball into the corner of the goal. At the back for Harpenden, Nats Boniface and Tom Bunbury kept Broxbourne from adding striking back again, and Harps then put the game beyond doubt at 5-2. Todd Baines rounded the 'keeper after good set up play from the impressive Ali Arnsby and Karen Lincoln.
