Defender spent three months on loan at St Albans City
Ian Gayle helped Dagenham and Redbridge keep a clean sheet against play-off chasing Luton Town in League Two last night.
The 22-year-old played the full 90 minutes in just this third appearance for Wayne Burnett’s Daggers. He was also the recipient of a two-footed challenge from Paul Benson, which saw the Hatters striker send off in the 37th minute.
Burnett told the Daggers’ official website: “Ian Gayle was excellent, he made a good partnership with Scott Doe. The change probably wasn’t forced upon me because I am at the stage to make changes now, but it was the perfect opportunity for him to come in and give account of himself.”
Gayle was superb for the Saints during a three-month loan spell at the club, and many fans would love to see him back at Clarence Park next season. That seems more unlikely after his impressive display at Victoria Road.
