JAVELIN thrower Peta Lundgren heads the list of Herts Phoenix athletes selected for the English Schools Track and Field Championships in Gateshead.

St Albans Girls school pupil, Peta, is currently in the top 10 in the British Athletics rankings with a throw of 42.17m in Crystal Palace. Last summer Peta, aged 18, represented Great Britain in the European Youth Olympics and threw a best of 44.13m to rank her in the top three in Britain at Under 20s. Peta recently won the South of England AA Championships.

Phoenix have a record 21 athletes selected for the Hertfordshire Schools Team for the Championships on Friday, July 11 and Saturday, July 12.

Laura Wake will represent Herts in the Under 20s 200m at Gateshead and has also been called up to the English Schools National Combined Event Championships which take place in September.

Sprinters Jodie Williams is the top ranked Under 15 in the United Kingdom and will hope to take victory for Herts in the 100m.

English Schools International hurdler Stephanie Gaynor will compete for Herts in the Under 20s 100m hurdles and 2007 National AAA silver medallist Emily Stevens will run in the 400m hurdles.
