SIX WICKETS from Jon Flemming helped Redbourn on their way to win number one of the season.
Redbourn are still in the bottom half of the division but with less than 25 points – the same as one win – separating the teams from fifth to 14th, the win puts Ben Roe’s side in a good position.
Stevenage chose to bat first on Saturday but it didn’t take long for Darren Bassill and Flemming to have Nick Carter wanting a do-over.
Bassill (2-57) struck either side of Flemming’s first victim to remove openers Norman Puckerin (1) and Scott Davies (6) and leave Stevenage floundering at 26-3.
Ricky Justin (54) and Faraz Ul Haq (17) pushed the score past the 50-mark before Roe (1-17) claimed his first and only wicket, trapping Ul Haq leg before.
Justin (54), who was scoring freely, and Mayson Tewkesbury (10) began to build an innings-saving partnership but Flemmings started an individual assault on the middle and tail order to hand the advantage to Redbourn.
A 10th-wicket stand between Carter (35no) and Amar Parmar (19no) gave the innings a semblance of decent score as Stevenage handed Redbourn a target of 189.
Redbourn started better than their counterparts with Gary Sandford (23), George Naismith (13) and Dave Irwin (8) seeing off the new ball, but at 55-3 the innings was in the balance.
Williams Hales (40) joined Chris Godfrey (44) in the middle and together they blasted the ball around the ground, pushing Rebourn closer to victory.
When both were finally removed with the score on 176-6, all that was left was for Daniel Roe (24no) to see Redbourn over the line, which he did in the 46th over.
Redbourn welcome Potters Bar 2s to The Common on Saturday, 1pm start.
